The Vivid Sydney festival is the electrifying intersection of art and technology.

Voted Australia’s Best Tourism Event multiple times, Vivid runs for about three weeks, celebrating culture, art, and innovation through stunning light shows, inspiring talks, live concerts, and gourmet food experiences.

This annual event brings together countless artists from Sydney and around the world.

For over a decade, the tourism office of New South Wales has grown this event into a Sydney must-see, now attracting almost as many international visitors as the famous New Year's Eve fireworks!

This year, the festival is set to take place from May 23rd to June 14th, 2025, lighting up all of central Sydney and its surrounding areas.

Vivid Sydney is mostly free! You can enjoy the main spectacle simply by strolling through the city centre and along the waterfront. However, there are paid options, like guided walking tours, exclusive dining events, or harbour cruises with local guides, if you want a deeper experience.

Vivid offers a fresh perspective of the city. You’ll see the iconic Opera House, the boats in the harbour, and most of the CBD buildings illuminated in vibrant colours, allowing you to escape and dream right in the heart of the city. Throughout the centre, you’ll find small, spontaneous street concerts that bring the evenings to life. You can also attend conferences and talks featuring thinkers and personalities from around the world.

This year, they have extended both the length of the event and the illuminated locations! In addition to the city centre, they’ve added lights and installations at Taronga Zoo, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the Royal Galleries—perfect for a family-friendly night out!

Seeing the Lights:

For a fantastic overview of the event, we highly recommend taking a ferry between Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. It’s very economical and will give you an incredible, harbour-side view of the illuminated city. Get your camera ready!

Your Campervan/Motorhome Advice:

DO NOT drive or rent your RV/campervan specifically for Vivid Sydney in the city centre. Parking for large vehicles is virtually non-existent, and traffic/tolls will be a major headache.

If you already have your rental campervan, we strongly advise you to book a campsite outside the city centre (check areas north or south of Sydney) and use public transport (trains, buses) to get to the festival locations.

Alternatively, book a hotel room downtown to navigate the festival on foot or by boat.
