Brisbane

Brisbane is the capital of its state, Queensland, which is Australia’s most touristic region.

In 1859, Queensland declared its independence from New South Wales and therefore chose the city of Brisbane as its capital.

With more than 2 million inhabitants, Brisbane is the 3rd largest city in Australia (after Sydney and Melbourne).

The heart of the city revolves around the Brisbane River, a name given in reference to the governor of New South Wales in the early 19th century.

The economy of this city is mainly based on the petrochemical, metallurgical and agro-food industries and more recently there has been a great development in the IT sector.

The Port of Brisbane is the base for the export of the country’s natural resources such as coal, lead, zinc,….

Brisbane is a very large city (in terms of surface area) where it is good to live. The climate is subtropical with a lot of humidity.

This city in the south of the state of Queensland is very sunny and short tropical showers are common.

From a tourist point of view, Brisbane is the ideal starting point for anyone wishing to visit the state of Queensland.

Remember to save at least 2 days to visit this city before taking your motorhome to visit the Gold Coast and up to Cairns via the famous Withsundays and Frazer Island.
